Day 2: Franschhoek
|
|
This morning we depart Cape Town and drive to the Cape Winelands, with its
backdrop of majestic mountain ranges and lush valleys. We stop for tasting
at wineries en route to the Franschhoek Valley where we visit the
memorial to the French Huguenots, who sought refuge from religious
persecution in Europe and settled here in the late seventeenth century.
Nowadays Franschhoek is known as the gourmet capital of South Africa.
We will go for wine tasting at Carbriere Estate
and the Moreson Wine Farm.

|
Day 3:
Stellenbosch
|
|
A scenic drive over the Helshoogte Pass (Hell’s Heights) takes us to
Stellenbosch, the “town of oaks” and South Africa’s second oldest
town. We check into Lanzerac Manor. Your hotel is a 300 year old wine
estate that is set in one of the most breathtaking vistas of the world.
The rooms are decorated with period and antique furniture; the colors that
predominate are gold and yellows.
Each room opens out to a private patio overlooking
lush vineyards, award winning landscaped gardens and the majestic
Helderberg Mountains. The Governors Hall Restaurant is open daily to serve
guest fine cuisine with an accent of local flavors. The vines planted in
the early 1900s have made way for new ones originating mainly from France.
We will go for wine tasting at the Lanzerac Estate.
The estate’s master winemaker, Wynand Hamman, has created some
exceptional wines, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot
and Pinotage fill the cellars. Overnight in Stellenbosch. LDBB

|
Day 4:
Hermanus
|
|
Today we enjoy a scenic drive to the little seaside town of Hermanus via
Grabouw.
In Hermanus
from June
to November is whale season in Southern Africa and Hermanus offers some of
the best land-based whale watching in the world. Every year Southern Right
Whales make their way from the cold waters of the Antarctic to the
sheltered bays of the Southern Coast of South Africa to mate and calve.
The bays at Hermanus are deep, allowing the whales to come within meters
of the shore and the high cliffs afford whale watchers excellent views.
We will be visiting the Hamilton Russell Wine
Estate on the Overberg Wine Route in Hermanus. In the afternoon we travel on the N2 to Cape Town to arrive in the late afternoon. Drop off at the
Southern
Sun Waterfront.
